Musiqology — Brand Identity
Role: In-House Creative Scope: Brand Identity Design
Overview
Musiqology was an editorial platform celebrating music, culture, and scholarship — anchored by the work of Dr. Guthrie Ramsey and the artists in his orbit. Before the platform could publish a single word, it needed a visual identity that could carry the weight of that mission.
The Work
I developed the brand identity system for Musiqology — logo, color palette, typography, and the overall look and feel — and extended that system into promotional graphics for Dr. Ramsey’s live shows and events.
That last part was critical. A brand that only lives on a website is incomplete — Musiqology needed to show up in the real world, on stage, and in the spaces where the music actually happened. I designed promotional materials that carried the brand’s visual language into event contexts, creating consistency across digital and physical touchpoints.
The design challenge throughout was finding the right balance: credible and culturally serious without being stiff, energetic without being shallow. The identity drew from the richness of Black music tradition while feeling contemporary and forward-looking.
Legacy
Though the original platform is no longer active, the brand evolved into Musiqology Media — and the foundational identity work created during this period continues to inform the platform’s visual direction today.
